A Simple Trick to Help You Automate Like a Pro
I’ve been creating a lot of AI automations recently in Make.com.
I build them for my own business as well as the Community in my membership.
Creating AI automations for your business is kinda like passive income — you put the time and effort in on the front end and reap the benefits going forward (saving you a ton of time and money over time).
But where do you even start when it comes to thinking through building an automation?
Here’s a super simple way to think about it…
Picture building out an automation like you would like planning a funnel – start with your end goal and then work backwards.
For example, one of our members is a Meta ads manager who wants to automate her new client intake process.
This is a great use case because automating it will save her a ton of time.
So, again we start with the end goal of what she wants to achieve and then work backwards to get clear on the steps to get you there.
Once you’re clear on the steps, and before jumping into a tool like Make.com, pull out a stack of sticky notes and a pen or grab a notebook or open your iPad.
Or use a tool like Whimsical or Miro or… a pencil. 😳
Draw out the steps of your automation flow.
This visual map will be your guide when you start putting the pieces or your actual automation together.
It’ll make building your automation WAY easier because you’re just following what you’ve drawn out.
Keep in mind, even simple automations like you’ll find below, can make a hugemongous (as my daughter likes to say) difference in your business.
So, start simple, think things through, and look forward to things being more efficient in your biz.

⚙️ AI Use Case of the Week
A Simple Way to Automate Email Replies
I shared this super simple automation during one of the live coaching calls last week with my AI Playbook Premium Membership Community on Skool.
I never thought to share it because it’s such a simple automation but it came up during a Q&A (perfect example of the curse of knowledge).
There are a bunch of different ways and AI tools to help with email inbox management…
…but if you’re looking for an uber-easy way to automate your email replies you can do it in 3 simple steps in Make.com.
Here’s the step-by-step guide for setting this automation up in Make.
Step 1: Trigger - Gmail: “Watch Emails”
Add a Gmail Module
Begin by adding the Gmail module.
Select "Watch Emails" as the trigger.
Configure Connection: Connect your Gmail account to Make.com. Make sure you grant Make.com permission to access your Gmail data.
Set the Filter: Configure the settings to watch specific emails, such as:
Label or Folder: You might want to specify the "Inbox" or a certain label to be watched.
Criteria: For instance, you could specify certain conditions like unread emails or emails from specific senders.
Choose Frequency: Set how often you want this module to check for new emails (e.g., every 15 minutes, hourly, daily…).
Step 2: Action - Anthropic Claude: “Create a Prompt”
Add Anthropic Claude Module
Add a New Module in your Make.com scenario, and select Anthropic Claude.
Choose the "Create a Prompt" action.
Configure the Input: You need to configure how the email content will be sent to Claude AI for processing.
Email Content: Map the email body content from the Gmail trigger to use as input for the prompt. This is the text that Claude AI will analyze to write a response.
Customize the Prompt: See below for a sample prompt…
Output Settings: Ensure that the output from this module will be a generated response text that can be used in the next step.
You are a world-class assistant who excels at managing email inboxes and crafting professional responses.
Your task is to monitor an email inbox and compose cordial, professional replies that match the writing style and tone of voice of the person you're assisting.
Here is the email inbox you'll be monitoring: [MAP TO PREVIOUS GMAIL MODULE IN YOUR MAKE.COM AUTOMATION]
To guide your responses, here are two example email responses:
<example_response_1>
{{EXAMPLE_RESPONSE_1}}
</example_response_1>
<example_response_2>
{{EXAMPLE_RESPONSE_2}}
</example_response_2>
Follow these steps to manage the inbox and respond to emails:
1. Analyze the emails in the inbox, paying attention to the sender, subject, and content.
2. Prioritize emails based on urgency and importance.
3. For each email that requires a response:
a. Study the example responses provided to understand the writing style and tone.
b. Craft a response that addresses the email's content while maintaining the same style and tone as the examples.
c. Ensure your response is professional, cordial, and appropriate for the context of the email.
d. Tailor your language to match the level of formality in the original email and the example responses.
4. If you encounter an email that you're unsure how to respond to or that may require additional information, indicate this in your output.
Remember to maintain the owner's voice and style throughout all communications. If you encounter any emails that you're unsure how to handle or that may require the owner's personal attention, include a note in your summary highlighting these emails and explaining why they need special consideration.
Step 3: Action - Gmail: “Create a Draft”
Add Another Gmail Module
Add a third module to the scenario and choose Gmail again.
Select "Create a Draft" as the action.
Configure Connection: You’ll just use the same Gmail connection you set up earlier.
Draft Settings:
Recipient: Map the original sender's email address from the trigger.
Subject: You can keep the same subject or append something like "Re: " in front.
Body Content: Map the response generated by Claude AI in the previous step to be used as the draft body.
Save Draft: This module will save the composed response as a draft in the Gmail Drafts folder.
NOTE: Want done-for-you automations like this? Inside my AI Playbook Premium Membership Community, I build these automations, and a bunch of others, for our members so all you have to do is import them straight into your Make account.
